What is Muay Thai?
Muay Thai is a striking combat sport that utilizes punches, kicks, knees, elbows, clenches, and leg sweeps. Muay Thai originates in Thailand and is referred to as the art of eight limbs due to the eight forms of strikes compared to kickboxing which has only four.
What to Expect During Class
The aim of this class is to encourage healthy habits while promoting the use of proper Muay Thai and striking techniques. THIS IS NOT A FITNESS KICKBOXING CLASS. While we will be sweating and increasing cardiac output, the main goal is to build a solid foundation for striking. Due to YMCA policy, there will be no active sparring or fighting. All drills will be done with a partner and will include pad holding.
About your instructor
My martial arts journey began when I was very young. My father (Advid martial artist) began teaching me as soon as I could walk. After I had aged and learned the basics at age 7, I began training Goju-Ryu (Hard-Soft Style) Okinawan Karate. I later went on to compete in 2 Cornhusker State Games gaining a bronze and silver medal for my division. At age 13 my father and I began to train in Muay Thai and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and have been hooked ever since. Martial arts is my passion and I will also be training outside of coaching to ensure that we receive the newest flows, combinations, and techniques. I love to compete and I hope to see you in class very soon (Tuesdays 6:35 pm).
